degeneration

Macular degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss in adults over the age of 50. Macular degeneration causes damage to the macula, a portion of the retina that is in the back of the eye.

Macular Degeneration Can Present In Two Forms:

  • Dry macular degeneration (more common)

  • Wet macular degeneration

Early Symptoms Of Macular Degeneration:

Most common symptoms of Macular degeneration are:

  • Blurry vision

  • Distortion of objects

  • Straight lines are wavy

  • Black spot in vision

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, make sure to give us a call as soon as possible to schedule a comprehensive eye exam or a medical consultation with Dr. Kaur.

What Is The Treatment?

There is no treatment for dry eye macular degeneration. Wet macular degeneration occurs when there is a fluid that leaks under the macula causing blurry vision. If detected early, wet macular degeneration can be treated with intraocular injections. Studies have linked vitamins containing nutrients like lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin C, vitamin E, and zinc to reducing the risk of progression of macular degeneration.
